Normally, I hate this contest. Always seems rough on us. Not sure it
was better, but I don't feel like I was in a bar fight. Much better
score than we have ever done. Due to a work event all Saturday morning
and cub scouts tonight, we didn't max out operating time at all.
The new 80m antenna worked okay. I had a lot of noise so eventually, I
need to make a receive antenna. However, it was much easier to work
Europe on this than on 40m. The issue is the band opening time is very
late so I couldn't ride it. I was up at 6am on Saturday and ran the
foundry from 8am to noon. Just tired on Saturday night.
Actually, that tiredness lead me to accidentally start CQing just
outside the 40m phone segment. Some guy was nice enough to mention it.
Felt really dumb, but thanked him for pointing it out.
I think the biggest surprise was the 10m opening on Saturday. WOW!!! I
totally didn't expect that and hopped on it as soon as I noticed. Not
a lot of QSOs. They didn't seem like sporadic E, but genuine F layer.
Just an odd opening
